BROCKHAMPTON released its fifth album, GINGER, last week, its second release without former member Ameer Vann. Vann was kicked out of the group in 2018 after being accused of sexual misconduct, and the members appear to cryptically refer to their former bandmate on “DEARLY DEPARTED.” Produced by Kiko Merley and Romil Hemnani, the track interpolates the collective’s 2017 song, “SUMMER.” Kevin Abstract opens the track by ruminating on the loss of a friend: In a recent interview with NME, he spoke about Vann’s departure. “That’s complicated,” he said. “That’s complicated to me.
