Youngster Maximo Perrone almost instantly pulled a goal back for City - leaving the Hoops on the back foot as they attempted to hold their advantage despite relentless attacks from the Sky Blues in North Carolina.
Greg Taylor attempted to spearhead a counter-attack down the left and found Johnston. However, the former West Brom loanee looked to back heel the ball forward - but sent it straight out of play.
