Boy dies in canal after entering water on hottest day of the year

A teenage boy has died in a canal after entering the water on the hottest day of the year.Preston McNally, 16, was pulled from the Leeds and Liverpool Canal in Burnley on Saturday.

Emergency services raced to the scene after the alarm was raised at around 4.20pm.The force said the tragic teen had entered the water near Empire Way in the town.

A frantic search was quickly launched but his body was recovered from the water just before 7.20pm.As reported by LancsLive, the boy has since been named locally as Preston McNally.

His devastated family have paid tribute to their "darling boy" who they say will be "forever in our hearts". His sister Lauren Saddington posted on Facebook saying: "Oh my darling boy.
