Boxing club receives knockout £10,000 donation

A Lanarkshire boxing club which has produced an Olympian and helped hundreds take part in the sport has received a funding boost.Members at Auchengeich boxing club has £10,000 of new equipment to upgrade their clubhouse from housebuilder Persimmon West Scotland and housing association Sanctuary Scotland.The knockout partnership joined forces to provide new flooring, treadmills and other much-needed training materials for the club’s base in Stepps.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Its homegrown champions include Brian Carr, a former Commonwealth champion who represented Team GB at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, and who is now a coach at the club – which will mark its 50th anniversary next year.The club serves everyone from budding boxers to those who want to keep fit and aims to keep costs as low as possible to ensure that anyone with a passion for the sport can take part.
