BBC bosses are reportedly keen to sign singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor as their 2024 Eurovision representative. It comes after this year's contestant, Mae Muller, came second from last in the competition, which was hosted by the UK in Liverpool.
It was the first time in 25 years that Eurovision has been hosted by the UK. Mae, who performed I Wrote A Song, got 24 points from the judging panel, leaving her just one place ahead of Germany, who came in last.
And now the BBC are said to be focusing on recruiting Murder On The Dancefloor singer Sophie, 44, for 2024. A music industry source told the MailOnline: “At the moment there is only one artist on the BBC's list for Eurovision 2024, and they don't intend to add to it. “Sophie Ellis-Bextor is seen as the ideal fit for the contest – she's a great singer and performer, and she is already known to audiences, both straight and gay, across Europe.
OK! has contacted the BBC and Sophie's reps for comment. It comes as Mae Muller said she is “proud of everyone” as she admitted her second-from-bottom Eurovision finish was “not the result we hoped for”.The London-born singer took to the stage in Liverpool for the Eurovision Song Contest final but finished 25th.
