Barry Ferguson has told the next manager of Rangers they won't be a stop-gap at Ibrox. And whether it appears it will be a toss-up between Belgian coach Philippe Clement and former Rangers player and current Yokohama Marinos boss Kevin Muscat, the Ibrox hero and Record Sport columnist is looking to the long-term as the Light Blues want to avoid a repeat of Michael Beale and his predecessor Giovanni Van Bronckhorst who were both axed around the year mark of lengthy contracts in Glasgow.

And that's something that has irked Ferguson who is urging the Ibrox hierarchy to stop the revolving door that has become commonplace in Govan.

He wants to see one of the aforementioned pair commit to Glasgow for at least three, but ideally five years to mount a consistent challenge to rivals Celtic.

He told Go Radio: "Rangers have done the process with four or five managers, whittling it down to two and then there will be second and third interviews.
