Amid the crowds in a tense Manchester city centre, a hand held up a sign bearing a simple, yet powerful message. Hundreds of protesters descended on Piccadilly Gardens this morning (Saturday) as two demonstrations were held.
Around 150 people joined one protest - entitled 'Stand Up For Your Country: Enough is Enough' - while a counter rally was attended by 350 demonstrators.
There were tense scenes as demonstrators were kept apart by rows of police officers. Two men were seen being detained by cops during the face-off, which lasted several hours. They could also be heard singing the name of far-right activist Tommy Robinson. Counter protesters carrying signs and placards could be heard chanting ‘Whose streets?
