A starved dog was found dead inside a storage box with a plastic bag in its stomach. The bull breed had been "left to waste away" and was wrapped in a duvet cover when it was discovered by RSPA officers in the garden of a home on Glaister Lane, Bolton.
The dog, named Reuben, also had five broken ribs and multiple missing teeth and was said to have eaten the bag as a result of how hungry he was.
RSPCA Inspector Beth Fazackerley described the case as "extremely upsetting". The dog's owner, Bethany Butterworth, claimed she was not aware that there was a dead dog in her garden and said someone else must have put it there, the RSPCA said.
