Alistair Johnston reckons Daizen Maeda’s Champions League red card was like POISON – but the Japan star shouldn’t take the venom out of his game.The Celtic defender revealed his teammate was distraught after the brutally harsh VAR sending off at the Stadio Metropolitano as Atletico Madrid put the 10 men to the sword.
Maeda has become a cult hero with Hoops fans for his relentless chasing and harassing of defenders.His high boot didn’t pass the VAR test in Spain though and the Japan star is now out of the Lazio clash in Rome later this month.
Johnston admitted the hitman might need to be careful in Europe – but he shouldn’t change. He said: “Daizen was distraught. It was a difficult one for him.
He played on that edge but he needs that edge. He is constantly pressing and running into tackles. That is what makes him so effective.
