Aldi named UK's cheapest supermarket for 15th month in a row as shoppers save average of £14

Aldi has managed to hold onto its crown as the UK's cheapest supermarket in August following a recent price comparison - but Lidl wasn't far behind.

Consumer watchdog Which? recently awarded the budget German grocer with the title in its recent monthly price comparison. It means that the supermarket has held onto the title for 15 months in a row.Despite food inflation falling in recent months, money is still a big concern for many shoppers.

Which is why the consumer champion website has been comparing the costs of prices at eight of the UK's largest supermarkets.The latest comparison found that Aldi shoppers were getting the cheapest prices for a small basket of 37 groceries with a total that came to an average of just £65.21 - which was over £14 cheaper than the most expensive option.

However, rival budget supermarket Lidl was not far behind Aldi, as it was the second cheapest option for shoppers with a total that came to £66.53 - making it a small £1.32 difference.Waitrose also managed to retain its own title as the priciest UK supermarket.
