The X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson has claimed that ITV allegedly "refused" her request to investigate allegations of mistreatment towards contestants on reality shows.

In a series of tweets posted on her Twitter account this week, the singer (who was a runner-up on the ITV show back in 2010) alleged that she sent an email to the network in 2021 asking for a review into conduct and aftercare procedures for reality show contestants.

However, Ferguson claimed she received a reply from a senior ITV official who declined her request for an investigation. "I was refused by ITV and OFCOM, no investigation was taken place and my concerns appeared to be fobbed off," read Ferguson's statement alongside a screenshot of the email she originally sent. "I am open to communication should they now wish to follow up with my private complaint now that I have made my complaint public. "In the email screenshot, Ferguson explained the key reasons for her complaint related to incidents where contestants were "mentally manipulated" and "reduced to tears" due to "pressure/bullying".

She also claimed contestants were "forced into contracts without independent legal advice", deeming the solicitors and accountants who were provided to them at the time as not being "independent" or having the clients "best interests" in mind.
