A woman who was bitten by a dog needed emergency surgery after going out leaflet dropping in her local area. Sharon Connor was shocked as she retrieved her hand from a letterbox to find it covered in blood. The woman, who was rushed to a local hospital to have plastic surgery done on her injuries, was campaigning for local election when she dropped a leaflet through a letterbox and her hand was bitten by a dog, reports the Liverpool Echo. The stunned Labour candidate for the Garston ward in Liverpool almost lost the tip of her finger from the animal's attack before rushing to a local pub to be treated before walking in to a centre in the area.Surgery at Whiston Hospital means her hand is now full bandaged and on the mend but she admits she was caught majorly off guard by the attackShe said: “I had my guard down and had put my hand through as I was posting a leaflet. “It was all so quick, there was no warning there was a dog in the house, it probably heard me down the street when I’d been next door.

I didn’t actually realise what had happened at first, it wasn’t until I pulled my hand out and there was blood everywhere. “When I went to A&E, I went straight in for them to operate on my finger.

It could have been a lot worse, I’m glad it happened to me rather than one of the volunteers.“As councillors, we do this all the time, it’s one of those things you face really.

I wouldn’t want it to happen to one of the volunteers.”She tweeted her thanks to NHS staff and is “on the mend” after successful surgery on her hand.
