Woman, 47, travels 450 miles and books FOUR days off work to try Manchester burger

When it comes to burgers in the city, we’re pretty fortunate to have a number of well-known establishments that serve up some of the very best of the best - so much so that people often travel up far and wide to give them a taste.

But one woman, from Winchester, decided to book FOUR days off work in order to make the five-hour trek each way to Manchester to try one of the city’s burger joints which has garnered a cult-like following and counts Aitch and Tommy Fury as fans.

Burgerism, which started life within a factory unit off West Ashton Street in Salford in 2018, now also has delivery sites in Denton, the city centre and in Gatley, alongside a dine-in spot at Freight Island too. READ MORE: Five of the best burger joints in Manchester to visit on National Burger Day 2024 Charlotte Kahl, 47, drove over 200 miles each way after coming across Burgerism’s smashed burgers, which use UK-reared meat, on TikTok. “Being a huge burger fan, I am always on the lookout for new places to visit and having tried many local burger takeaways in my area, I was desperate to try something new, Charlotte explained of the incentive behind the trip. “I saw Burgerism online and couldn’t stop thinking about it for days after – I just knew I had to make the trip.” During her trip to Manchester, Charlotte stayed in a local hotel within proximity to Burgerism’s Salford site, so she could simply order a meal straight to her hotel room.

Her order consisted of the Cheesed burger - consisting of two smashed patties, cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion and Burgerism sauce in a seeded brioche bun - alongside a portion of chips. “The trip was absolutely worth it,” says Charlotte. “From the first bite, I knew I had found something completely unique
