A Mexican wrestler who became a serial killer is at the centre of Netflix's latest true crime documentary. Known as The Lady of Silence, Juana Barraza built herself a career as a professional wrestler - but went on to dupe and kill 16 vulnerable women.
At 41 year old, in 1998, she murdered her first victim and killed more over the span of eight years. She was thought to have posed as a government official, targeting vulnerable women over the age of 60 who lived alone in the country's capital, Mexico City.

As the description for the new Netflix documentary The Lady of Silence: The Mataviejitas Murders explains, witnesses thought the suspect was a man. "Witnesses define him as a tall, robust, and strong person who pretends to be a nurse to gain the trust of his victims." The killer was dubbed 'La Mataviejitas' which is Spanish for The Little Old Lady Killer.
At one point, police thought that two murderers must have been working carry out the horrific murders. A complicated and seemingly fruitless investigation followed.
