After months of speculation, Rishi Sunak has finally announced the date Brits will head to the polls in a general election this year.
The prime minister made a statement outside Downing Street this afternoon, confirming that the national vote will take place on Thursday, July 4 - just over six weeks' time.
Now that a date has been set, some people may be wondering what they can do if they plan to be away on the date of the election.
Most people vote in person at their local polling station, but it is possible to vote by post or with a proxy voter - as long as you register in time.
