Chancellor Rishi Sunak will address the UK today to announce new support packages to help people struggling with the ever-worsening cost of living crisis.
It comes as energy process, which already increased by 54 per cent in April, are forecast to rise another £830 in October. It comes as the cost of everything we buy in shops - including food - heads towards being 10% more expensive now than it was a year ago, and the cost of petrol goes over £1.70 a litre for the first time.
At the same time wages have decreased in real terms by an average of 2.9pc. The government announced earlier this year that everyone in the country would get a £200 loan, reducing the cost of their gas and electricity bills, in October this year.
Mr Sunak is now expected to announce that the loan will turn into a grant - meaning it will not have to be repaid - and that it will be doubled to £400.
