Wedding day was paws-itively perfect for couple who brought their dogs to Gretna ceremony

Dog lovers Steve and Shelley Strachan have taken canine capers to a new level at Gretna Green.The couple tied the knot in Scotland’s wedding mecca with some of their eight four-legged pals given leading roles.They said having their six-year-old beloved rescue Chihuahua, Bear, serve as ring bearer when they exchanged their vows at the Famous Blacksmiths Shop, added “an extra touch of love and joy to the occasion”.When the duo were planning to travel from their home in Falmouth to Gretna Green in a motorhome with all their pets family – including an African grey parrot called Ruby –it was Steve who suggested Bear should carry the rings in a special pouch on his collar.However, the celebration was made even more memorable by the presence of their other canine family members.They decided to include two 11-year-old Jack Russell terriers, Milo and Krony, who proudly walked her “down the aisle” with four-year-old Bailey.The wedding ceremony at the anvil was conducted by civil celebrant Stuart McCutcheon.Bride Shelley, aged 42, who works in administration, said: “The wedding wouldn’t have been complete without the dogs.“They’re the reason we first met, so it was very symbolic to have them there.”The parrot and four other dogs stayed in the motorhome for the ceremony and joined in the celebrations later.Groom Steve, 48, said: “There was no way we would have left the dogs at home and everyone at the Blacksmiths Shop was very accommodating and fantastic.“It was an amazing day with just our dogs and Ruby.
