'Vulnerable' woman lay dead in her flat for three years despite concerns, inquest hears

The family of a vulnerable woman who was found dead in her flat after more than three years had raised concerns about her welfare nearly two months before her body was discovered, an inquest has heard.

Laura Winham's remains were discovered by her brother in her Woking, Surrey flat in May 2021. Ms Winham, who was 41 at the time of discovery, was found after her family requested police to force entry into her home due to worries about her safety.

They previously claimed she was "abandoned and left to die" by social and mental health services, and that she passed away in November 2017 - three-and-a-half years prior to her body being found.

An inquest into her death, which started at Surrey Coroner's Court on Tuesday, heard that Ms Winham's family had reached out to Woking Borough Council (WBC) two months before her body was found, and that a subsequent door knock at her home went unanswered, reports Wales Online.
