Volunteers chip in to repair Lanarkshire school's sensory garden

The sensory garden at a Lanarkshire school has been repaired and revamped following vandalism earlier this year.Colleagues working for Virgin Media O2 teamed up to transform the much-loved outdoor space at Redburn School in Cumbernauld after hearing that it had been damaged by mindless yobs during the summer, just before the new academic year got underway.Team members spent a combined 40 hours planting flowers and taking on painting and repairs – and now plan to return in the new year to carry out further renovations.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Local resident and Virgin Media O2 employee Nicola McWhinnie swiftly rallied her colleagues to help; and they painted an outhouse, mended a broken bridge feature, replanted flower beds and tackled areas which had become overgrown while youngsters were unable to use them.Group members said September’s first phase of work gave “new life to the space” – and they now plan to return to the Kildrum Road school next term to make further improvements.
