Vicky Pattison details horrific mistake that led to her ‘losing a toe’ in ice challenge
ok.co.ukTV presenter Vicky Pattison insists she can handle sub-zero temperatures in the Arctic Circle – because she’s from Newcastle.The 36-year-old once celebrated her birthday in winter wearing just a grass skirt and a coconut bra.
She laughed, “I remember on my 17th birthday me and the lasses went out dressed as hula girls wearing grass skirts and coconut bras in Newcastle in November.
If that’s not training for this, I don’t know what is!” She might love a daft laugh, but Vicky is determined to complete the challenge, if it takes all her strength. “This is the biggest challenge I’ve ever done,” says Vicky. “It’s the coldest challenge I’ve ever done and we’d be foolhardy to think we’re going to get through this with just a smile and a positive mental attitude.” Vicky has previously tested her mettle in a cold climate when she trekked across Iceland with Chloe Madeley to raise money for breast cancer charity CoppaFeel.
She wore ill-fitting boots and paid the price as the tip of her little toe fell off owing to frostbite. “I lost a toe the last time I was in the ice,” says Vicky. “Luckily for us it has grown back.
