The UK is on the brink of chaos as three more police officers were left hospitalised after further riots in "completely unacceptable" scenes on Friday night. The extreme unrest - described as 'criminal thuggery' by one MP - occurred in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, where a police station was set on fire and riot officers had to form a protective ring around a mosque, reports the Mirror.Eight people were arrested and three police officers were hospitalised following the latest riots, which happened after right-wing groups spouted misinformation regarding the Southport atrocity. It's now been reported that jail cells are overcrowded, but despite this, more riots are planned across the UK in areas including Blackburn, Bristol, Hull, Leeds and Portsmouth.

Yvette Cooper, Home Secretary, last night warned criminals involved will face "the strongest possible action" as she slammed the "violence and thuggery".

She posted a message on X, formally known as Twitter, after hundreds of people, many of them draped in England flags, gathered in Sunderland city centre on Friday evening.

Sunderland is more than 150 miles away from Southport, where Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe and Alice Dasilva Alguiar died after they were attacked at a dance party on Monday.Ms Cooper's tweet read: "Criminals attacking the police & stoking disorder on our streets will pay the price for their violence & thuggery.
