Two Doors Down star Doon Mackichan to talk on her life and career at Boswell Book Festival

The line-up for this year's Boswell Book Festival has been announced, offering three days of compelling life stories. The festival, named in honour of Ayrshire writer, James Boswell, the inventor of modern biography, is held at Dumfries House in Cumnock from May 10 to May 12.

Each year the festival attracts the finest writers and performers to what has become one of Scotland's major cultural events.The festival will kick off with Ayrshire-born Rose Reilly who, almost 40 years before the Lionesses shot to international sporting stardom, and became the only Scottish person to have won a football world cup, while playing for Italy in 1983, earning her the title of world’s best female footballer.Also, star billing on the opening evening are the first of this year’s festival poets, former Scottish Makar Jackie Kay and one of the UK’s finest comedic actors talking about her life and career, Doon Mackichan, renowned for her signature roles in Two Doors Down and Smack The Pony.Two remarkable veterans of WW2, Olga Henderson, 92, who is one of the last survivors of a Japanese prisoner of war camp and 100-year-old Patricia Owtram who worked as a code-breaker at Bletchley Park including planning for D-Day will take to the stage on Saturday, May 11 to describe their separate experiences of war.Festival director, Caroline Knox, who created the festival in 2011, said: "Ever since founding the festival I have taken huge pride in hosting a remarkable group of WW2 survivors, many of whom wrote compelling memoirs which have added to the ever-changing narrative of how the conflict is described.
