Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.
He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.
fatal 1997 accident is surprisingly tasteful – but, as the show circles back to this topic later on, it becomes ludicrous. After that first scene, “The Crown” then jumps back to “8 weeks earlier,” as Diana takes moody teen Prince William (Rufus Kampa) and a childishly enthusiastic Prince Harry (Fflyn Edwards) on vacation in St.
Tropez, with Dodi Al-Fayed (Khalid Abdalla). Diana and Dodi’s romance is depicted as warm friendship, with some hugs and kisses — no tawdry sex scenes.
However, Dodi’s manipulative father, Mohamed “Mou Mou” Al-Fayed (Salim Daw), is portrayed like a soap-opera villain, asking his staff for updates on whether Dodi and the Princess “are intimate” (a maid confirms that they sleep in “one room, one bed”).
Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II (Imelda Staunton) is chilly and austere, Prince Philip (Jonathan Pryce) doesn’t have much to do, and Prince Charles (Dominic West) is concerned with making everyone – from the public to his mother – like Camilla Parker Bowles (Olivia Williams). In other words, same old, same old. This part of the story is a snooze, and it feels like the show is just spinning its wheels until it gets to the good stuff.
