The ancient village with two ‘lovely country pubs’ near Greater Manchester

Having a wander around a pretty village on a crisp winter’s day and rounding off your trip with a visit to a cosy pub is a wonderful option to kick off the New Year.

And across the border in Lancashire, the ancient village of Ribchester is just over an hour’s drive from Greater Manchester.

Nestled at the foot of Longridge Fell on the banks of the River Ribble, the village is located a stone’s throw away from the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Later in the 17th and 18th centuries the village became a centre for cotton weaving. With pretty cottages and a picturesque location by the River Ribble, Ribchester is a lovely spot for a relaxed stroll on a winter’s day.
