Subtle signs of face cancer to watch out for after James Martin's diagnosis

A health expert has warned about the subtle signs of cancer on your face you shouldn't ignore after James Martin revealed he had the condition.The celebrity chef shared the news following his apology for a foul-mouthed rant on his ITV show, James Martin's Spanish Adventure.

It came after he was called out by staff for "bullying and intimidating behaviour".The Mirror reports that the 51-year-old claimed the incident happened during "the most fraught and difficult periods of [his] life" and that since his surgery, the cancer has "returned on several occasions" with him needing to have "regular treatments".

Skin cancer on the face, known as facial cancer, is an extremely common type of the disease, according to the NHS. There are two main types of skin cancer, non-melanoma - which is the most common - and melanoma, which is less common.Across Britain, approximately 147,000 cases of non-melanoma skin cancer are diagnosed each year, with the condition thought to affect more men than women.The main symptom of non-melanoma skin cancer, which can be subtle to begin with, is a new lump or discoloured patch on the skin that doesn't go away after a few weeks - and can progress over time.

Experts at the NHS explain: "In most cases, cancerous lumps are red and firm and sometimes turn into ulcers, while cancerous patches are usually flat and scaly. "Non-melanoma skin cancer most often develops on areas of skin regularly exposed to the sun, such as the face, ears, hands, shoulders, upper chest, and back."Health experts also advise speaking to a doctor if you have any type of skin abnormality that can include lumps, lesions, ulcers or skin discolouration that has not healed after a month.Non-melanoma skin cancer is usually divided into
