Getting your house broken into can be a financial and mental nightmare, but the reality is that it does happen - and often during the summer.Being in and out of the house so much means you're more likely to forget about unlocked doors, which are one of the main causes of break-ins, according to We Buy Any Home.
It only takes a second for someone to run in and steal something, so ideally you want to deter thieves as much as possible. But there's one thing that isn't always effective, and that's a "beware of dog" sign hanging up.
The threat of a dangerous dog will do little to scare a thief away - in fact, it's more likely to entice them in. That's according to Michael Fraser, who featured on the BBC's Beat the Burglar, who recently spoke to the Sun about how to keep your home safe and secure from criminals.
He says that a "beware of the dog" sign will essentially make any thieves see your house as "up for grabs" as it apparently tells your whole neighbourhood that you don't have a house alarm.
