Amanda Abbington has opened up about her distressing stint on Strictly Come Dancing, describing it as "tough and horrible" and sharing that she would often come home to vomit and cry after rehearsals. The Sherlock star, who famously portrayed Mary Watson, made an early exit from the dance contest last year before week six for "personal reasons".
Her former dance partner, Giovanni Pernice, is under BBC investigation due to claims of abusive or threatening behaviour, which he vehemently denies.
Despite the controversy, it was confirmed last month by show officials that Pernice won't be joining the upcoming 20th anniversary series of the show.
In a candid interview with The Sunday Times, Amanda revealed: "I've had the worst experience. The show was tough and horrible, but the aftermath of it I was not expecting." She continued: "It's been really brutal and it just hasn't stopped." Abbington went on to describe the harrowing time following the show: "It's been awful, just relentless." She also spoke out about receiving "Death threats and rape threats for just standing up for something that I thought was wrong." The actress went on to praise her fiance, escapologist Jonathan Goodwin, for his unwavering support, reminding her of the reality when self-doubt crept in.
