Storm Debi hits Scotland LIVE amid 80mph winds and 'danger to life' warning

Scotland's yellow alert is in place from 10am on Monday, November 13, until 10pm, covering Angus, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray.Heavy rain is battering the rest of the country with gusts of wind at up to 80mph.Jason Kelly, chief meteorologist at the Met Office said: “Storm Debi will develop quickly and bring potentially very strong and damaging winds to parts of the Republic of Ireland, which is why Met Éireann has decided to name the system.“The strongest winds are expected to affect parts of the Republic of Ireland early on Monday, possibly coinciding with the morning commute, before then affecting parts of north Wales and northern England into the afternoon.The centre of #StormDebi is now crossing the Irish Sea bringing severe gales in places.

Recent gusts include 74 mph at Killowen in County Down, Northern Ireland and 77 mph at Aberdaron, Gwynedd, Wales In addition, heavy rain may bring surface water flooding in places pic.twitter.com/sUqUC1D9nJWeather maps have shown Storm Debi rolling towards Scotland - with winds of up to 80mph expected.

The Met Eireann - the Irish meteorological service - named the storm Debi. It is the fourth weather front given a name in recent weeks.

Heavy downpours are likely to result in fast moving floodwaters, which pose a danger to life risk. Homes and businesses could face structural damage and loss of power affecting services like WiFi and landline phones.Flooding in areas may cut off road access for some communities, with wet conditions likely to lead to bus, train and ferry delays, possible cancellations, as well as tougher driving conditions.
