A historic former pub in Stockport could be demolished to make way for a new Sainsbury's store. The Dog And Partridge, on 84 Buxton Road, High Lane, has been acquired by the supermarket chain after the Co-Op withdrew its own plans to redevelop the land.
Planning permission for the demolition of the former pub building and development of the land is already in place, and plans include constructing a 28-space car park with an entrance on Buxton Road. "Whilst Sainsbury’s scheme is very similar to the approved development, there are some minor material changes needed to the car park and building to accommodate their requirements." The pub building has an entry on the Greater Manchester Historic Environment Record but it is not a listed building.
The history of the site as a public house is thought to stretch back to the early 19th century. The planning application will be reviewed by Stockport Council and a decision will be made on whether Sainsbury's can move forward with the plan to redevelop the area.
