Staff at the 13th Note in Glasgow are bidding to reopen the bar under employee ownership after it was permanently closed following strikes.Workers at the venue in the city's Merchant City say their plans to reclaim the venue will "reinstate the cultural and social legacy" of the pub, which was closed in July after 21 years of trading.

Former owner Jacqueline Fennessy said she was forced to call in liquidators after a "dramatic reduction in revenue" as a result of the involvement of Unite Hospitality.

It came after members of the trade union staged a 48-hour walkout at the venue – thought to be the first Scottish bar strike in more than 20 years.

Workers downed their tools after a vigorous row over pay and were set to continue the industrial action every weekend until August 6.But their plans were cut short when the owner announced permanent closure of the bar after being "driven to insolvency by Unite Hospitality”.
