Aesthetician and TikTok influencer Sarah Maxwell, who has 332,000 followers, has shared an urgent warning about the dangers of using hot water bottles, electric blankets, space heaters or heating packs. This is pretty bad news for the millions of Scottish people who are currently heading into the chillier season of autumn.

All of these devices are pretty much essential for surviving the colder months, however what many people don't know is that by using them, you risk developing a potentially deadly condition called "Toasted Skin Syndrome."In a recent viral video, Maxwell explains how she contracted the syndrome by sitting too close to a space heater while working.

She begins: "This is a PSA (Public Service Announcement) to anyone who uses hot water bottles, heat sources like a space heater, or a heated mattress or heated blanket...

you have to be careful."She goes on to explain that these items can cause you to develop "erythema ab igne", also known as "Toasted Skin Syndrome", and that she knows this because it happened to her."I accidentally gave this to myself, which is very ironic considering I'm an aesthetician who is crazy about sun exposure and wearing sunscreen and keeping my skin protected," she goes on to explain.
