Older people with a long-term health condition, disability, or have additional care needs are being urged to contact a national charity for direct help claiming Attendance Allowance.

Independent Age could help more people over State Pension age claim either £72.65 or £108.55 each week, and as it is paid every four weeks this amounts to either £290.60 or £434.20 every pay period.

The national older person’s charity offers free, confidential and impartial support online and over the phone on 0800 319 6789.

The latest figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show there are now more than 1.6 million older people receiving additional financial support through Attendance Allowance, including nearly 144,000 living in Scotland.
