A "selfish bully" harassed his own mother for money from behind bars, to sustain his cocaine habit while imprisoned at Altcourse Prison.

Gareth Davies, 37, made a series of aggressive phone calls to his mother, extracting over £4,000 within two months by menacingly stating "you know what will happen" if his demands were not met.

Despite a restraining order previously imposed to prevent Davies from approaching his mother after prior harassment, he defiantly contacted her from HMP Altcourse in August last year, pressuring her to transfer sums of money into the bank accounts of third parties.

Following a delayed payment, Davies called his nan and said she would have to send even more money due to the late payment. At Liverpool Crown Court on September 27, Davies' mother said her son persistently targeted his grandmother with daily phone calls, employing her as a messenger for his demands once his mother started ignoring his attempts. "I always feel if I do it this time, he will leave his nan alone," she said.
