The Scottish Green Party has claimed that its under-fire coalition with the SNP has prevented a Westminster "assault" on the environment.
The party claimed that the Tories' and Labour’s "culture war" against climate proves how crucial Scottish Greens being in Government is.The SNP-Green coalition - known as the Bute House Agreement - has been criticised after it failed to implement key policies.
Its gender recognition reforms were blocked by the UK Government, the deposit return scheme was postponed after Westminster declined to include glass, and the proposals for Highly Protected Marine Areas (HPMAs) were dumped following a public backlash.Senior SNP MSP Fergus Ewing has loudly criticised the coalition, while former leadership candidate Kate Forbes said members should get a vote on it.
Former Scottish Greens leader Robin Harper quit the party over its "obsession" with independence and trans rights.Scottish Greens climate spokesperson Mark Ruskell said: “Both the Tories and Labour seem intent on running headlong into a climate catastrophe by scrapping protections and climate action while doubling down on supporting fossil fuels and big business.
