Scots man heartbroken as beloved dog dies in his arms after 'hit and run'

A pet owner has told of the tragic moment his beloved dog died in his "arms" after he was struck by a car in Glasgow. George Evans lost his 12-year-old Lhasa Apso, Hamish, at around 6:30pm on Tuesday, April 9, after he was hit by a car on Aitken Street near the Dennistoun area of the city.

A heartbroken George described little Hamish as his "everything", who he'll be "lost" without, reports Glasgow Live.Hamish - who joined George at work everyday - was on his leash walking home, before the little one was hit by a 'speeding' car.The devastated owner recalled the incident, saying newly placed bins on the street "obscured" his vision, making it difficult to see oncoming traffic, but he claims the car was driving "very close" to the pavement.George said: "I could hear a car coming, as I turned around it hit him head on as he was slightly in front of me"It just took him right underneath, at this point I was directly behind the car and Hamish came out the back end, off his lead - as he rolled out I began running after the car."George then chased the car on foot, before going back to Hamish's aid, who tragically took his "last breath" in his "arms".The car in question failed to stop and George is certain that they must have noticed what happened.He continued: "There is no way the driver didn't know he hit Hamish, people even ran out from their houses after they heard the thud."Neighbours and passersby heard the commotion and offered their help, one woman brought a blanket to keep little Hamish warm before police and Glasgow's 24 hour Vets Now Hospital were called for advice.George described Hamish as his "life", he added: "he was my inspiration and gave a lot of love and loyalty which was reciprocal from me.
