Scotland sees first snowfall in September as temperatures drop below 0C

Scotland has had it's first snowfall of the season - in September.People in the Highlands woke up this morning to snow lying on the ground as temperatures dropped.Many shared snaps online of the snowy scenes in the Cairngorms.However, this appears to not be a fluke as the freezing conditions are set to continue this week, with Thursday into Friday set to be the coldest.

Weather experts have warned that the mercury could plummet to zero and below as an 'Arctic blast' is on the way. A Met Office spokesperson said the cold snap will pave way for snow to fall in the UK, specifically over Scotland.

They said: "A cold front sweeping south will introduce arctic air to the UK, resulting in below average temperatures nationwide this week. "It's possible there could be some snow on the very tops of the highest peaks in Scotland.

We're talking above around 800 meters." The Met Office spokesperson added that temperatures across Scotland will easily dip to zero and below later this week, first reaching 0C on Wednesday, September 11, and will reach a horrendous -2C in the coldest parts.Despite the whole of the UK experiencing cold weather, Scotland is expected to be the only country that sees a trace of snow.Many took to social media to talk about the unusual September forecast.One penned: "Snow on Cairngorm yesterday in Scotland.
