Rutherglen Glencairn boss pleased to progress in cup, but bemoans performance

Joe Pryce was pleased to see his Glens pass their tricky examination away to Campbeltown Pupils, but admits his side didn’t get full marks for their performance.Rutherglen Glencairn made the six-and-a-half hour round trip to Argyll and Bute on Saturday, during a weekend of atrocious weather conditions and fixture postponements in the wake of Storm Babet.But conditions had eased sufficiently for Glens to play the fixture and they returned home with a 3-1 victory to progress to round three of the West of Scotland Cup.That came courtesy of goals from Paul Brennan, Matty Gear and Mason Durham, who netted his second goal in two games following his loan move from Benburb.Yet Pryce wasn’t satisfied with the performance.

He said: “We scored two quick goals and we were 2-0 up within 10 minutes, so you are thinking that will be us, we can push on from here, but we didn’t do that.“Campbeltown are an honest bunch, they kept working away to get a goal and get themselves back in it.“Then we just got a bit bogged down in the game, we weren’t at our free-flowing best.

We had to knuckle down and get through it.“Wee Mason comes up with a terrific goal at the end.“To show that composure, when he’s only 20-years-old and just in the team, was great.“He bent the ball into the top corner, it was a terrific goal and I was really pleased for him.“It is going to take him time to settle in.
