Rod Stewart 'absolutely devastated' as he pays tribute to Cockney Rebel frontman Steve Harley

Sir Rod Stewart has said that he is heartbroken after hearing that his friend Steve Harley has died. The Maggie May rocker said he was "absolutely devastated" and that he had "loved" and "admired" Steve, who was the lead singer of Cockney Rebel.Steve Harley passed away at home when he was 73-years-old with his family saying that he died peacefully with them around him.Sir Rod talked about how much he loved Steve.

He said: "Absolutely devastated, words fail me. The Cockney Rebel has left us. Loved you and admired you Steve and always will.

Sir Rod Stewart."Steve Harley wrote songs for Sir Rod, and Sir Rod even sang one of Steve's songs on his album in 2015.Last year, Steve Harley had to stop his music tour because was really ill after being diagnosed with cancer.

His wife Dorothy and his kids Kerr and Greta said that he died at home with birds singing outside, just like he loved. They said his house was full of happy sounds from his four grandkids.They remembered Steve as someone full of passion, kindness, and generosity.The family said that the musician will be "desperately missed by people all over the world".On Christmas Eve, on his website, Harley told his fans he hoped they would have a "happy, healthy New Year".
