An expert has suggested that a recent decision by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could have upset his late grandfather, Prince Philip, and has 'further distanced' the couple from the Royal Family.The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked royal watchers when they suddenly changed their children's surname from Mountbatten-Windsor to Sussex, breaking away from a 64 year old tradition.
Now Ingrid Seward has revealed she believes this move would not have been well received by the late Prince Philip.The surname Mountbatten-Windsor was given to male-line descendants of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, as decided by the Privy Council in 1960.
This was something the duke had strongly advocated for. When his wife, Princess Elizabeth, became queen in 1952, Prince Philip was disappointed to learn that his children wouldn't carry his surname, Mountbatten.
Instead, they were named Windsors, in recognition of the Queen's heritage, reports the Mirror. A solution was proposed by Winston Churchill and the Queen's private secretary Tommy Lascelles, who suggested that the family use Mountbatten-Windsor for male descendants.Ingrid told the Daily Mail: "How sad, therefore, that only three generations later, Harry should so blatantly disregard his grandfather's wishes and effectively abandon the family name for which Philip had fought".Using a new surname "will only serve to further distance the prince and his children from the Royal Family," Ingrid added.Meanwhile, another royal expert has suggested that Harry and Meghan's children, Archie and Lilibet, already face a number of "huge obstacles" in forging a relationship with King Charles.Archie, four, and Lilibet, two, have had limited time with their grandfather due to their residency in
