Police followed a trail of blood to the crime scene after a man stabbed his friend in Coatbridge. Liam McWhinnie had argued with the victim during a drinking session, Airdrie Sheriff Court heard this week.

McWhinnie, 25, admitted assaulting his pal to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement on December 1 last year.The attack happened at the accused's home in Kilgarth Street.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

A scuffle broke out and McWhinnie took hold of a large kitchen knife and struck his friend on the abdomen with it."The accused then pushed him out the front door before running out the back door."The court heard a neighbour found the victim sitting on a doorstep.
