Police divers search under bridge after man arrested on suspicion of murder

Police divers are searching a section of the River Mersey after a murder probe was launched this weekend. An underwater search unit has been stationed by the Silver Jubilee Bridge, in Runcorn, after a man was arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday.

Officers arrested the 43-year-old after they were called to concerns about the behaviour of a man spotted in the area the night of Saturday, February 12. READ MORE:Public warned not to approach this Oldham man The man was arrested following a police search of homes in St Helens, near Wigan, the Echo reports.

Cheshire Police contacted Merseyside Police after a member of the public reported seeing a man parking his car and acting suspiciously between 8.30pm and 9pm on the bridge.

A joint investigation into the circumstances continues and house-to-house and CCTV enquiries are being carried out. This morning (February 14) divers are also believed to be searching the River Mersey under the bridge, as an underwater search unit has been spotted on Collier Street.
