Plans for 100,000 panel solar farm in Ayrshire are announced by Government's energy consent unit

Plans for a massive solar farm in the Ayrshire countryside, with as many as 100,000 panels, have been unveiled by the Scottish Government's energy consents unit.Renewable energy firm Locogen have earmarked agricultural land to the north of Loch Fergus, 5k south east of Ayr, where they hope to build the solar farm on a 58.2 hectare site.They have now formally submitted a request to Scottish Ministers for consent - under section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 - to construct and operate the solar and battery storage project.South Ayrshire Council has been made aware of the proposals as they are the "relevant planning authority." They now have four months to launch an objection to the proposals, if they so wish.Locogen hope to win permission to change the use of the land to incorporate their solar farm, which would be roughly equivalent in size to 150 football pitches.
