Perth city Scout group prepare for Alps adventure in Switzerland

A Perth Scout group are looking forward to an adventure in Switzerland later this year.The St Matthews Church 22nd Perthshire group have started raising funds for the trip to the International Scout Centre at Kandersteg in the Bernese Alps in October.Fourteen Scouts and five leaders are set to go on the trip which involves flying to Geneva followed by a five-hour train journey.The next fundraiser is a pop-up shop in Coupar Angus which opened on Sunday.Assistant Scout leader Linda Greig said: “The Scouts are all really excited about going.“For some of the kids this will be the first time they’ve been on a plane and/or out of the UK so they can’t wait for the big adventure that is ahead of us.“This trip was originally planned for 2020, however due to Covid it had to be cancelled at that time.“A couple of our leaders have been to Kandersteg when Scouts themselves and have fond memories of their time there.“Our Scouts will have the opportunity to make friends and connections with Scouts from all over the world who may be staying at the Scout centre at the same time as us.”A day trip to Bern for a city tour and museum visits are also planned.

All the activities will count towards the Scouts earning special badges that they can only achieve while staying at Kandersteg.Fundraisers so far have included a St Matthews Church coffee morning in November last year as well as a stall at the Santa day market in Dunkeld in December selling handmade Christmas decorations, cards and treats as well as a tombola and lucky dip.The total cost of the trip to Switzerland is around £28,000.Linda said: “We don’t have a specific fundraising target as such.
