Novak Djokovic is taking the gold. The 37-year-old tennis player claimed the No. 1 spot, winning the Olympic gold medal for Serbia at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday (August 4) in Paris, France.
He beat Carlos Alcaraz 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2) in the men’s tennis singles final at the 2024 Games. “I put my heart, my soul, my body, my family — my everything — on the line to win Olympic gold.
Incredible battle. Incredible fight,” he said, via AP. He previously took home the bronze at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Lorenzo Musetti of Italy won the bronze. Novak is the oldest man to win the singles gold in his sport since 1908, preventing Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, who is 21, from becoming the youngest. Novak cried and covered his face during the ceremony, then rose and grabbed a red-white-and-blue Serbian flag.
