Paisley Pirates league opener against North Ayrshire Wild will go ahead this weekend as planned. The clash was thrown into doubt after Queen Elizabeth II’s passing on Thursday.Instead of postponing clashes, the Scottish Ice Hockey Association (SIHA) has instead decided to mark the Monarch’s passing with a two-minute silence and playing of the national anthem. That means the Pirates opening SNL clash with North Ayrshire Wild tomorrow at Breahead Arena will still take place at 5pm, with doors opening at 4.20pm.An SIHA spokesperson said: “Everyone connected with the Scottish Ice Hockey Association was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday 8th September 2022.“Following an SIHA committee meeting on Friday morning, and following current guidance, the committee members have agreed to proceed with the regular season fixtures at both junior and senior levels as planned this weekend.“A further announcement will be made regarding any fixtures on the day of the State Funeral.”Glasgow Clan’s clash against rivals Fife Flyers last night was also set to go ahead as planned, with Malcolm Cameron’s men still travelling north tomorrow to take on Dundee Stars.
