Opening date announced for gym and fitness studios at Dewars Centre
dailyrecord.co.ukLive Active Leisure has announced the new gym and fitness studios will open at Dewars Centre on Saturday, September 21 at 11am.The arm's-length external organisation of Perth and Kinross Council made the announcement on social media this week.The decision to relocate the gym and fitness studios from Bell's Sports Centre to Dewars Centre was taken after the leisure facility on Perth's North Inch suffered up to £2 million of flood damage on October 8, 2023.Live Active Leisure had only opened the 100+ state-of-the-art gym at Bell’s just 15 months before in July 2022 - to much fanfare and following a £750,000 revamp.On May 15, 2024 Perth and Kinross Council agreed to Live Active's request to remove sport and leisure activities from Bell's Sports Centre from August 2024.Councillors agreed for the large-scale gym to be moved to Strathearn Hall at Dewars Centre.
The hall had been home to Perth Indoor Bowling Club until earlier this year. The club was informed of the plans in an email from Live Active Leisure’s chief executive Paul Cromwell on Monday, March 25.Previously, in January 2023 Perth and Kinross councillors voted to ultimately consolidate all three Perth leisure facilities - Bell's Sports Centre, Dewars Centre and Perth Leisure Pool - into one single facility which will be called PH2O.
Elected members voted to remove indoor bowling from plans for the new Perth leisure centre. A fully-costed plan for PH2O is due to go before councillors on Monday, September 4.This week Live Active Leisure announced plans for the opening of its gym and fitness studios at Dewars Centre.
