Nicky Campbell's 5 Live Show was hit with technical difficulties this morning. The radio presenter, who has appeared on the radio station since 1997, completed the show's introduction before the show then dropped from air.

Instead of the lively discussions listeners have come to expect, five minutes of trance music could be heard, along with the repeated message: "We are sorry but BBC Radio 5 Live is currently experiencing temporary technical difficulties.

We hope to return to normal programming as soon as possible." Following this, the broadcaster opted to play a 2020 interview between DJ Nihal Arthanayake and Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien.

Nicky made it back onto air at 9:20AM, explaining to listeners: "Well, how you doing? We’ve re-routed the studios now, after some – I don’t know if you noticed – some technical glitches, but we are back on the air. "We’re up and running, we’re going to do this.Thank you very much for the texts, especially the one that said this is your best ever programme!" Referencing the Radiohead interview that had been played in the meantime, Nicky quipped: "Radiohead...yeah, I've been a "Radiohead" since I was 12 and here I am, talking to you, so talk to me." Earlier this year, Nicky opened up about his ongoing health struggles after a mental breakdown led to him collapsing at London Euston station.
