Residents in Merseyside have helped the clean up after Saturday night's violent scenes which caused major damage in the area.Following a disturbance in Liverpool city centre in the afternoon, rioters descended on Walton on Saturday evening, causing major damage in what police said was "serious violent disorder", reports Liverpool ECHO.Bins were used to start fires, as looters targeted businesses including the Spellow Library and Community Hub, with flames visible inside the building after just minutes.The havoc began when people started to assemble near County Road Mosque at around 8.30pm.Far-right social media channels had called for people to gather there during the evening, with hours of violence following.Bricks were launched at police officers and fireworks were thrown towards them.

Police issued four riot vans, and drove into the crowd to disperse them before officers with riot shields ran at them, pushing them beyond the junction of Hale Road.On Sunday morning, a clean-up operation began.

The Spellow Hub was boarded up, with debris and significant damage visible inside.Shops were damaged, bins were burned out, lampposts had been overturned and scorch marks were visible on the street.

Street sweepers and council staff went out to clean up and people from the area assisted with the task.John Jennings, a councillor for the County ward, had come to County Road to help with the clean-up operation.
