Traffic delays are expected on one of Oldham’s busiest roads because of upgrades on the gas network. Rochdale Road in Oldham town centre will have temporary traffic lights controlling traffic for the next four weeks, with locals warned to ‘allow extra time for journeys’.

The measures are on the two junctions with St Mary’s Way and New Radcliffe Street. Both roads are used to access Oldham’s Integrated Care Centre (ICC) and could cause delays for those heading to medical appointments.

The upgrades are a part of an £80m project by gas company Cadent, who are upgrading older gas pipes across the country. More than 7.5km of pipes in the Oldham area are due to be upgraded this year. We know this is a busy road, so we have worked with Oldham Council to agree a week-by-week plan of work.” The temporary traffic measures required amendments this morning in order to allow buses to pass safely with traffic management to be kept ‘under review’.
