The team bidding to revive Ayr's former Odeon Cinema say community spirit will play a key role in its rebirth.Film chiefs are working behind the scenes to get the show back on the road at the Burns Statue Square site.
After acquiring the iconic picture house last year, Merlin Cinemas are building towards the re-opening of the facility in the coming weeks.The firm, based in Penzance on England's south-west coast, insist it was love at first sight when getting the chance to snap up the Art Deco structure.
Now they hope the public will back their vision to put Ayr's cinema scene up in lights again. Chris Wilkes, property and development manager at Merlin, told Ayrshire Live : "This is a wonderful building - there is no getting away from that.
When we found out that Odeon were disposing of it, we simply jumped at the chance. "Our owner is committed to traditional, vintage cinema - beautiful buildings that need preserved and looked after for the community.
